Water Level and Clarity: After 3 weeks of a cold snap there was a lot of slush and ice on the river. When it first warmed up the first two days was mostly just slush and ice coming down. Once that cleared, we saw very dirty water as expected.
Water Temps: Anytime we get that much snow and ice melting it significantly drops the temperature of the water and creates a lot more turbidity.
Fishing Overview: When the water was that cold and that dirty theres still some fish willing to feed but overall their metabolism slows down so much that there's not a ton of feeding going on right now. Now that most of the snow and ice has melted, temperatures are warming up and stabilizing.
Fish are in slow deep runs. Anglers are looking for walking speed or slower water. Consider midge patterns, blood worm patterns, and micro leech patterns for nymphing. If doing trout spey, use a mix of leech and small baitfish patterns. At this time of year, sun exposure can be even more important than temperatures for the fish's activity levels.
