Winter Fishing on the Bow River
Hey everyone, Kaith here! Headed out to the Bow River this weekend? For winter fishing on the Bow River or similar tailwater trout streams make sure you're fishing in slow walking pace water and look for deep pools.
Before you hit the water, check out your fly boxes to make sure you've got the right flies. If you're wondering, "what flies should we be fishing on the Bow right now?" I talked to Josh, Ty, and Alec who recommended the following Top 10 Winter Flies for the Bow River:
1. Red Devil Nymph
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on an indicator.
2. Tungsten Squirrel Leech
Put this leech behind a streamer and either strip or swing, you can also dead drift it on it's own on an indicator.
3. Rio's Puparazzi Nymph
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on indicator or euronymph.
4. Tungsten Bead Sexy Betty Hare's Ear
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on indicator or euronymph.
5. Tungsten Bead Jig Soft Spot Nymph
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on indicator or euronymph.
6. Tungsten Bead CDC Flashback Pheasant Tail
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on indicator or euronymph.
7. Peacock Bugger
Put this leech behind a streamer and either strip or swing. You can also dead drift it on it's own or on an indicator.
8. Griffith's Gnat
Fish this dry fly with a drag free drift.
9. Tungsten Bead Nightmare Perdigon Jig Nymph
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on an indicator or euronymphed.
10. Red Wire Worm
This nymph is best fished with a dead drift on an indicator or euronymphed.
