A Native Trout Adventure
Out Fly Fishing's Youth Ambassador
Youth Ambassador Series: A Native Trout Adventure
A year ago, my uncle and I went searching for Arctic Grayling and Athabasca Rainbows. And boy did we find them. Ever since that trip, I have wanted to take my dad there. Finally, we made it happen!
On day one of our two day camping and fishing trip, we caught so many grayling. Almost every cast a fish would surface on our flies. We caught a bunch of beautiful grayling.
On day two, we fished a small creek for Athabasca Rainbows. We bushwacked way back in the creek and caught five beautiful Athabascas. They have some breathtaking blue bars on both sides of the fish.
Man, do those trout fight. They come flying out of the water at least a few feet in the air.
We took some amazing photos, let all the fish go and left the spot to be fished another day.
Born in Calgary, Alberta, Ryden Aoki has been hooked on fly fishing since the age of two. Now just 11 years old, Ryden has already fished in four countries and landed an incredible 71 different species.
With a passion for adventure, an impressive growing list of catches, and a love for the sport that knows no bounds, Ryden is proving that age is no limit when it comes to chasing fish and making memories. The sky is the limit for this incredible young angler — and we can’t wait to see where the journey takes him.
