Nano Silk Ultra 30D 18/0 is the ultra-fine, professional-grade choice favored by expert fly tyers worldwide. As one of the finest GSP threads available, it offers exceptional strength, a smooth, flat lay, and an extensive selection of colors—making it perfect for everything from micro patterns to precise, low-profile applications on larger flies.

At 30 denier (18/0), this thread is ideal for the smallest and most delicate fly designs. Despite its ultra-thin diameter, Nano Silk Ultra delivers remarkable durability and reliability. You can trust it to hold without snapping, even when tying the finest micro flies. It is 10 times stronger than steel of identical diameter, yet fine enough for tying down to size #32. The thread can also be easily split for creating ultra-fine dubbing loops.

Designed for hook sizes #16 to #32, this thread is perfect when you need maximum strength with minimal visual impact. Although incredibly thin, Nano Silk Ultra remains stronger than 8/0 polyester and measures less than 1/20th of its diameter—ideal for patterns where the thread must disappear into the fly.

As with all Nano Silk, it lays perfectly flat, preventing unwanted thread build-up—demonstrated by its ability to take over 100 wraps without creating a noticeable head.

Specifications

  • 18/0, 30-denier GSP thread

  • Breaking strain: 1,140 g / 2.51 lb

  • Ideal for hook sizes #16 to #32

  • Lays perfectly flat with zero build-up

  • Ultra-fine and ultra-strong—10× stronger than steel of equal diameter

  • Approx. 50 m / 54.6 yd per spool (100 m on black/white spools)

Pro Tips

  1. Rotate your bobbin anti-clockwise to untwist the thread and achieve an ultra-flat lay. This allows you to secure delicate materials—such as foam—with only a few gentle wraps.

  2. Use white Nano Silk and color the last 4 inches (100 mm) as needed to create custom-colored heads, highlights, or segmentation.

Not all GSP threads are equal. Independent strength tests highlight Nano Silk Ultra’s superior performance, made possible by high-precision manufacturing and premium-grade materials that ensure maximum smoothness, strength, and consistency. (Search the Global Fly Fisher Thread Chart to see independent data.)

Note: Always use a ceramic bobbin holder with any GSP thread, including Nano Silk Ultra 30D.
